Lost horsepower can be attributed to inefficiencies in the setup or design of an engine. One potential issue is parasitic drag. The crankshaft is not only responsible for turning the gears of the transmission, it must also serve the myriad of accessories such as power steering, air conditioner and alternator. Reduction of parasitic drag can be likened to unleashing free horsepower, and one of the easiest ways is to upgrade to an aftermarket crank/accessory pulley. The crank pulley drives the ancillary systems by way of accessory belts. By underdriving (reducing its diameter) the crank pulley, it reduces drag on the crankshaft while continuing to operate the accessories. STILLEN pulleys are CNC-machined from billet aluminum for strength and light weight.
