A supercharger is a device that forces air into the engine via a series of pulleys driven off the factory engine crank. These pulleys power a secondary air pump of sorts that compresses the air before it enters the engines intake manifold. This creates a pressure called "boost" which is force fed into the engine. The additional air intake allows for more power to be produced. There are different names for different types of superchargers such as twin screw, positive displacement, centrifugal. While they all have different advantages and disadvantages, the end result of compressing the air to increase the volume of air entering the engine is the same.
To add more power to your engine, a supercharger essentially forces more air into the combustion chamber. This allows more fuel to be added, which results in a larger explosion and more horsepower.
This depends on the kit that you purchase as well as the vehicle application that it is going onto. Supercharger kits that STILLEN® sells can increase the power output of an engine from anywhere between 50 to 300 horsepower, depending on the engine. Supercharger kits often have room to make extra power but are limited due to the strength of the stock engine. Making too much power will increase the risk of premature wear and even failure of stock engines. But if an engine is built to handle the extra stress, the power gains can be endless!
Many aftermarket part and performance part manufacturers make superchargers. However, we only carry the best, most well respected names in the industry. These names include STILLEN® superchargers, Edelbrock superchargers, Magnuson superchargers and Whipple Superchargers.
We sell a wide variety of superchargers and supercharger kits, so chances are that we do. Enter your year, make and model in the sidebar above and browse the various supercharger parts we carry or click below to browse parts for our most popular vehicles below:
When it comes to choosing a supercharger, the main thing you want to look at is the power you will be getting for the kit, if a warranty is available, and if the kit is CARB certified. CARB certified will allow you to run the kit legally in states where smog laws are present. STILLEN® only works with companies that have an outstanding reputation for quality products to ensure customer satisfaction. If after browsing the STILLEN® website you aren't sure which supercharger kit is right for you, give us a call at 1-866-250-5542. We have a fully trained staff of car and truck enthusiasts that will be happy to offer you some recommendations.
Instructions will vary by manufacturer and are included with the unit you purchase. However, we recommend that you have a performance shop install the supercharger kit for you because most kits require advanced mechanical skills. Having an approved performance shop install your supercharger will also make sure that your warranty is not voided.
